Burn's New Player Guide

From Revelation Remastered

Hello! In an effort to let new players get a hand around the first hour of playing Revelation this guide has come into existence!

Note: When I say "ask for help" it means /t a Guide or Guardian, or /b-ing to ask everybody online if neither 2 are online. DISCLAIMER: This guide is only for those who do not exercise their common sense while playing games. If you feel you exercise common sense, please read the other New Player GuideXD

Introduction

If you haven't downloaded the game client and/ or created a new character, please go to the Kaldana download section to download the client. After you've installed it,open Revelation.exe and you will see a black screen around the size of your palm! Click on "Create New Character".

You will see that you need to fill your username, password, gender, and class. Please do not put offensive words, numbers (Me1, Me2), repetitive letters for aesthetic purposes (xXxMexXx), and no -es, _es and the like are allowed. Don't put too many capital letters, alternating capital letters is also not allowed (IoWnJoO). Fill in your password, hope its the most secure you can go! And poof its time to choose your class. There are 12 different classes, belonging to the 4 different guilds, all with unique abilities, advantages, and disadvantages. Your choice of guild and class is permanent, so make your choice carefully. For more details please refer to Kaldana's classes page.

But for a new player I would recommend a Warrior, or Wizard if you prefer spell casting. Then just fill if you are guy or girl. After you've filled in all 4 fields click "Ok", and you will be connected to the server, a nearly-full-screen window should pop up. P.S. 1 player can maintain, but not play more than 1 character at once. Inactives will be deleted however, thus you are advised to focus on 1 character.

User Client

What you see now would be what you call a user interface. Your character is now in the World of Kaldana, where a day lasts 12 hours. You will later find that the time of day doesn't really affect your vision, your stamina etc. so it's just for fun. (The only exception is a Necromancer skill, Peace with Darkness.) On the top right corner is a multicoloured array of tiny boxes, this is the Map. You are the orangish square in the middle, and your character is currently in the Town Square (TS), Myronmet. We call 1 tiny box a "room", and your character will move from room to room as he/she travels through Kaldana.

Directly below it is a large white rectangle, this is the Target Box. If there is some other player, non-player character (NPC), or monster (we call them mobs), their names will be listed there. Now to select a mob in the room you are in, click on its name, or press Ctrl-# where # is the number in [ ] beside the name. If you don't see anyone don't panic, press the down arrow key once, you will see some Townspersons. Do the same to them. Now you will see that the mob/ NPC/ player you have selected is enclosed in a grey rectangle. Right click, you will see a few buttons. If its a player you will see Examine, Attack, Trade With, Group With, and Follow. If its a mob/ NPC you will see only Examine, Attack. Regardless, click "Examine".Refer now to the large black region in the middle. It is the display of everything that happens around, and to you. You may be able to see things like "Burn broadcasts, "I like this!"", or things like "Burn auctions: Ruby Wand for 1 gold coins.". But after you have clicked Examine, lines of text will pop out like this:

You examine a Townsperson (level 5).

A Townsperson considers you neutrally.

Attacking a Townsperson would be suicide!! (red)

If its a player you'll see somewhat similar things except that you would see the equipment he/she is wearing, and you would see his prestige. The prestige system will be explained later. Now that you know how to select and examine we will utilise it later. Ignore the [+] at the top right of the Target Box first.

Below it is 2 tabs "Skills" and "Spells", with another rectangle below it. Currently the lowest white rectangle shows your skills, like "Daggers I", "Swords I", or "Meditation I", and maybe some more. Click on the "Spells" tab to see your spells. Warriors, and many other classes can't learn spells so that field will be empty. Spell casting classes (we call them casters) would have something like "Spirit Shroud I" or "Shield of Spirit I", and maybe somemore.

The textbox below the big black region is a place to talk. Please refer to the "Talking" Section for more details.

We now go to the left. At the top left you would see three bars, red, blue and yellow. They stand for health, mana, and experience respectively. Your health bar should be fully red. When its fully grey you are considered dead. If you are caster, your mana bar should be fully blue; other classes don't need mana so theirs will be grey. Your experience bar indicates the % of experience you currently possess in order to progress to the next level. In your case it'll be zero.

Slightly below it you see 4 tabs. These aren't critical, just click on them and have a casual look. Note however in the "Default" tab, the Burden indicates the amount of objects you are carrying, versus maximum you can carry. Below this are N, S, E, W in a compass fashion, and U and D. Click on the buttons to go to the adjacent room in that direction. The arrow keys suffice too. U represents climbing up (a ladder?), and D means descending (a trapdoor?). U is Page Up on your keyboard, and D is Page Down. Try moving 1S, then 1E from TS.

Can't do it? Of course, you can't walk through walls in Kaldana. If you are at 1S of TS, you would see that the E, W, U, and D squares are greyed out. This means you can't go through them. Now go back to TS, and go 1E1N. You have entered Verhan's Lazy Lizardman Inn! Here you notice that the D square is black, that means you can go through! Try descending into the cellar of the Inn.

Can't do it? Hahah, Verhan locks his cellars you know! You will need a key to go through this door, which may be obtained through quests, bought, or just dropped from some mob. Don't worry though, the chance to get the key will present itself if you need it for a quest. Now walk back to TS.

Even further below you see 5 squares, D, 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. And 6 rectangles below them. The 6 rectangles when clicked will perform their respective functions. Only "Attack" and "Examine" are target-specific, the others are not. E.g. if you click attack without selecting anything nothing will happen.

When you click the 1, 2, 3, and 4 squares you see that the 6 rectangles have turned blank. These make up 4x6 = 24 spaces altogether to put macros, which will greatly enhance your gaming experience. Refer to Macros for more details.

Talking

There are 4 kinds of ways to talk in Revelation, "say", "broadcast", "guild" and the "tells" channel. Only the first three have corresponding rectangular buttons above the textbox. Try clicking on them. If you click "broadcast", you should see a "default channel: broadcast", and so on. Now I'll explain the different types of talking. NOTE: NO profanities, and refrain from spamming CAPITALS.

1. Say Only people in your room will see things you type in this channel. Simply switch the default channel to say and type whatever you want to say in the box , then press Enter. Or there's an alternative form of input, as below.

Input: Hello everybody! (without quotes, default channel: say) or /say Hello everybody! (without quotes, any other default channel)

Output: Burn says, "Hello everybody!" (with quotes, in white)

This is also the only mode of communicating with NPCs, if you would want to buy/ sell things, put stuff into the bank etc. More will be said later in the "NPCs" Section.

2. Broadcast Every player currently online will see anything you type in this channel.

Input: Hello everybody I need some help! (default channel: broadcast) or /b Hello everybody I need some help! (any other default channel)

Output: Burn broadcasts, "Hello everybody I need some help!" (with quotes, in blue)

3. Guild Here things get a bit messy. The guild here refers to a player-setup guild, which is not the 4 Guilds you have just encountered. This is not really applicable until you reach level 100, so read other guides or ask around (with your new knowledge of /b!) if you want to find out about this.

4. Tells A "tell" you send to another player can only be seen by the other player (and anyone else looking at his monitor screen). To send a tell you set say to the default channel. But instead of typing the message straightaway (Let's say Fend is your friend)...

Input: /t Fend hello!

Output: Burn tells you, "hello!" (with quotes, in purple, and only Fend can see this)

There are other ways you can express yourself. These come in the form of auctions. If you have an item that you think others might want (this probably only happens around level 50 but its good to know now) you can auction it, everyone online will see it, and they will bid if they are interested.

To auction a Ruby Wand for starting price 1 gold, and you want to hear bids in /b you do this: Input: /auction Ruby Wand,1,/b please Output: Burn auctions: Ruby Wand for 1 gold coins. "/b please" (with quotes, bold yellow)

If you see someone auctioning an item, and you want to know what are the stats of that item, type "/auc info". A window will pop up displaying those.

Then you should look out for blue text, for people who start bidding (e.g. Fend broadcasts, "100k"). This auctioning system is player-controlled i.e. you have to arrange everything yourself, and you have the right to reject bids if you don't like that player, or if the bid is too low.

Sometimes you may see an auction that goes like this: zanzoken auctions: Greeanjok Skull Ring for 2000000 gold coins. "instant." This means that zanzoken (no offense zanz x)) is selling that Ring at 2 million gold coins, and the first one who sends him a tell is likely to get that object at 2 million. If he receives more than 1 tell he may considering letting those interested to bid, but that will come later. Just know what that "instant" means.

Combat and Levelling

After reading so much dull stuff you must be raring to go kick some a**. Excellent! But it'll be nice to first, join your guild first. None of the 4 guilds know about your puny existence now, you must first go express your allegiance.

Recall the 4 guilds: Soldiers of the Empire, Defenders of the Faith, Scholars of the Academy, and the Watchers of Chaos. Within Myronmet and its outskirts reside the 4 guild trainers for these guilds. For the Soldiers trainer: go 3E 3N 3E of TS, and meet Captain Dasan. For the Faith, go 4W 3N, and meet Theolate Ho. For the Scholars, go 4E 3S 1E 1S of TS, and meet Guildmistress Katinallya. For the Chaos, go as far E as you can go, 1S 1W 1S 1W 1N 1W 1S 2W 1S 1W to meet Tuneal Sumasa. Practice selecting them, and examining them.

Having selected them, make sure your default channel is at say. Then type "join" without the quotes. You have now joined the guild! Now you can go and kick a**. There are only 2 places with mobs you can kill: one is just west of Myronmet, the Myronmet Swamp; and the other is just east, the Illundium Forest. Visit either one of them, and when you meet a mob (don't walk too far out) examine it. If it does not say "attacking it is suicide!!" you should try to kill it.

There are three ways to kill mobs (at your level). One is pure melee; if you checked your inventory you would have seen that you either wield a dagger, sword, staff, mace or hammer. Melee is using a weapon to whack the mob. Two is pure magic; casting magic does not require any weapon (except your brain). Three applies exclusively for the class Summoners: they can summon a pet to fight for them. I won't explain the third. P.S. Don't bother trying a combination of the first 2 methods, because you can't melee while casting a spell.

To melee a mob after you have determined whether you can kill it, select it, right click and click "Attack!" once or press Ctrl-A once. To stop attacking, press Ctrl-S or click the button at the bottom left. To chicken out (that automatically stops attack), simply press the arrow key in the direction you want to run. Do note that while chickening out you still cannot run through walls.

To cast spells and kill a mob, click the "Spells" tab on the bottom right, select the mob, and keep double-clicking on the spell name till the mob dies. In the case of a Wizard the spell is "Flame Bolt" with the Roman numeral I behind.

Now there will be movement in the middle black region. You may see things like "You hit a Giant Snake for 7(-4) damage!" in white and "A Giant Snake bites you for 2(-6) damage!" in red. The 7, is the damage you did to the snake overall, and the 4 is the amount of damage the snake managed to prevent. If the snake were totally defenceless you would have dealt 11 damage. For a more detailed explanation look further.

Look to your top left, and click the "Default" tab. Look at your "Damage:" portion somewhere in the middle. Say it displays "Damage: 10-20". This means that for every hit or spell you land on the mob, an invisible 11-sided die will roll and a number from 10 to 20 inclusive will show up. In the example 2 lines up, an 11 showed up. But a mob generally has defences. The magnitude of these defences is dependent on many things. Armor, Absorb, Magic Resistance (MR), and Level Difference. In the region below the "Default" tab you can probably see Armor for the meleers, and Armor and MR for the casters. MR may show up on meleers depending on how you let your character develop, and Absorb may show up on any class. Level Difference is not displayed, but if your level >> the mob's level, you can hit for 15538(+14035) damage. In that case 15538 - 14035 would be the number that showed up on the multi-faced die. If your level << the mob's level, you will likely hit for 0(-20) damage, in which 20 is the number that showed up on the die.

Whee! You have killed your first mob. (likely a Giant Snake, Giant Lizard, or Wolf Cub) You will see that you gained 10 experience. If you are lucky there may be a drop. The drop could a snake eye, lizard foot, or tattered wolf pelt. Do remember to pick them up after every battle (by clicking "Get Item" on bottom right).

But this may seem rather tedious, the game has an inbuilt command to automatically pick your own loot up. Type "/autoloot" without the quotes. Also type "/autoattack" ONLY IF you are a Warrior/ Defender/ Assasin/ Paladin/ Redeemer/ Ranger. Note again that you can't cast a spell when you are attacking!

Yet another useful command is "/who". When inputted it pops out a window showing the usernames, level, and location of everyone online. This can be used to check whether a Guide or Guardian is online. "/whois <name>" can be used to check the level, number of deaths, prestige, and number of players killed, provided you know his/her username. To see every command type "/cmdlist".

Go on and kill your mobs. If you get killed (health bar totally grey) you will be sent to "The Fiery Pits of Hell", and spend some time in there. Before level 30 you will respawn at the Town Square, Myronmet at full health (and mana), but level 30 and above you will respawn at 10% health , and regenerate the rest back by waiting a while. Regeneration (regenning for short) of health and mana is a process that occurs wherever, whatever except:

1. You are in Hell 2. You are casting a spell 3. Somebody is casting a spell on you 4. You are in combat (one-sided counts too) 5. Somebody cast a room offensive spell 6. You are in a group, and any one of your group members in your room, is in combat or is doing the above 2 actions.

I have missed out some, but anyway most importantly you are unable to regen in battle. Secondly, regenning occurs at twice its speed at Town Squares. There is only 1 Town Square in Myronmet and its outskirts.

Now you are on your way to your first level. Note that your exp bar can stretch up to 150% after you hit 100%. So you need not worry that something bad will happen if you kill mobs for exp even after 100%. Once you have 100% of exp you can go train! Walk off to your guildmaster/mistress/captain whatever, select him, and type "train". Everybody in Kaldana, including you will then see "Burn has grown in strength, and is now level 2!" in bright green. You yourself, will see "You gain 1 prestige!".

FYI to log out you go to the bottom right and click the "Log Out" button.

Speccing

Speccing is the portion of Revelation where you need your brain the most, probably. Read the [Guides] on Rev Wiki pertaining to your class, and understand a bit about what different specifications, or specs, your class can diversify into. Choose a spec, and work toward it to the end. It would be advisable to choose a simple spec to get to know the game mechanics better before you embark onto radical specs which are tiring to play, or may require overly expensive equipment. Once you have chosen your spec, click the "Level Up" button at the bottom left. A small black window will pop up, with 4 tabs. You should understand by now that there are Stats, Skills (and for some, Spells) to add points into, and do that promptly by clicking the tiny + signs, beside the stats, and at the bottom right for the skills/spells. If you click wrongly go to the "Summary" tab and click "Reset", it will reset the clicks you have just made. (Note: it does not reset ALL of your stats/skills/spells). Once you have confirmed your additions, go to the "Summary" tab, check the summary, and click "Apply!" if its fine.

You will then see "Your learning is complete." in yellow in the middle black region. Please keep your eyes open during this process, for all changes are generally non-reversible.

NPCs and Quests

NPCs play an integral part of Revelation society, and are as important as the playerbase. Learning how to interact with them is essential for further advancement. You already know how to talk to your guildmaster, by saying "join" and "train". You can ask him for Quests too. Quests are missions or tasks you have to fufill, in order to rise in ranks within your guild. After every 5 levels (i.e. at level 5, 10,...) your guildmaster will have a quest for you. To obtain it from him/ her, type "quest" to him. He will say something to you, look out the for the keyword(s) in bold and underline.

To continue the conversation type the keyword(s) to him, until he issues you a specific task. Read the non-bold text carefully, for there may be vital clues within. Sometimes he doesn't respond when you type the keyword to him, either that keyword is meant to be told to another NPC, or that keyword is an indication of what you need to do (e.g. if Brown Bear is a keyword it could be that you have to kill it), or.. you should try walking out of the room, and back in again. This action is necessary occasionally due to a game bug. If the third method doesn't help, ask for help.

Quests can be of wide natures. You can be a courier, assasin, hunter, scout, the possibilities are endless. After you have completed a quest, you may type "promotion" to your guildmaster. You will then rise to a higher rank in your guild! Additionally quests can also give rewards, like exp, gold, items, faction and more. Note: Random NPCs you meet may also give quests. Do ask them, you may get a pleasant surprise!

To buy or sell from a shop NPC simply say "hi buy" or "hi sell" respectively to the guy. A window will pop up, the rest is self-explanatory. The vendors in Myronmet are:

Junk 1E 1S Weaponry 1W 1S Armor 1W 1N Cloth 2N 1W Bazaar 2E 1S Rum 5S 1W Travel 6S 4E 1N Potions 5E 3S 1W

Miscellaneous

This is a short section describing other trivia you may need to know.

Runs, Groups Firstly, recall when you right-click a player in the Target Box you will see the option "Invite to Group". A group, is a team of players who follow a leader around and exp. The tank, normally a Defender, is usually the leader of the group. The other members of the group are composed of damage and support. Damage tends to refer to Warriors, Wizards etc. and support are Priests, Enchanters, or Necromancers. The roles are not fixed; an Enchanter can be specced to be damage and be equally as effective, but this is the convention.

When players are in a group, exp and gold gained from a mob is subjected to a % increase, then split equally among all members. All drops temporarily go to the leader, pre-100 normally the leader will shop the drops and split the gold. I would emphasize that it is more advantageous for most classes to be grouped, although exp and gold gained per mob is a bit lesser, speed is increased by a lot (and you can defeat higher level mobs). Many measures have been put in to encourage grouping and you should look at these with an open mind.

A group consisting of many (>5?) level 100's is considered a run. A run is for all purposes the same as a group, but it is solely meant for killing bosses. Exp and gold are not of emphasis here, the drops are more valued. The drops are definitely not shopped, but are rolled for. The most standard method of roll involves every member of the group typing the command "/random 1 1000". This rolls a magical 1000-faced die, giving a number from 1 to 1000 as output. Whoever gets the highest number wins the drop, and the leader gives it to him.

With Asegrene, (refer Asegrene Guide), players from level 46-55 can participate in runs too, but the minibosses are obviously lower level, from 57 to 60. Similarly, the drops there are very lucrative compared to the exp/ gold. You may wonder if level 100's group for exp or gold, yes they do.

AA If you have examined a level 100 before, you would notice an "AA ??" below their username. An AA is essentially a level up you need to pay for. But gives you skills or spells. Earlier AA's take 250,000 gold, it increases progressively till 500,000 gold. Do not fret if you only have a total of 1000 gold even if you strip yourself and sell everything, I assure you you should have at least 100,000 gold by level 50. Every few certain AAs comes an EA (Epic Advancement), from EA1 (AA12) up to EA4 (AA45). You will be able to choose 1 out of 4 bonuses, or superb skills. For example at EA4 you can choose a skill Miracle, which grants you immediate full health.

Prestige and PKing Each character has its own prestige, the main way of gaining prestige pre-100 is simply by levelling (you get 1 per level). Another way is to kill the minibosses in Asegrene, they give prestige for each kill. There is a maximum number of prestige you can obtain from killing bosses every 12 (Earth) hours, however. It is far easier to decrease prestige, however. PKing (Player-Killing) a character will grant you the loss of 5 prestige once someone kills you. If you PK a 2nd, you will lose 25% more prestige (i.e. you lose 6, 11 in total). If you PK a 3rd.. you will lose 7.5 (I don't know if it rounds up or down..) and so on. Note that even if you kill 1337 players and nobody kills you, you will not lose ANY prestige. A PKer (defined as anyone who has PKed at least once and not died) is listed as ORANGE in broadcast, say, in the Target Box, in /whois, /who, ah basically everything. Hunt them down! An ORANGE will drop all his gold on him when you kill him. If a group of people worked to kill him, the person who dealt the killing blow generally gets the "loot".

There are other penalties to PKing too. You spend much more time in Hell.. and when your prestige goes too negative, a host of bad things befall you.

You drop gold everytime you die, regardless whether you PKed.

You lose 10% exp everytime you die.

Bankers refuse to deal with you.

Shopkeepers refuse to deal with you.

NPCs refuse to deal with you.

...In order of decreasing prestige.

Guilds As mentioned prior the definition of guilds seem to be fuzzy in Rev. In this section the Guild refers to the player-setup guilds. Coincidentally there are four types too: Fortune, Mind, Body, and War. Refer to Guilds. Essentially you need to pay upkeep (that is, gold) every 12 hours, in exchange for great bonuses. This is only for active players, and the bonuses are normally worth it.

Mail A Mail is a great way to leave a message for other players if you cannot find them online. At the bottom right hand corner, click "Mail".

End of guide. Hope that you, the new player who cannot exercise common sense has found this useful! Anything do /t or Mail me ingame! On Burn.
